Choosing the right tarpaulin for your greenhouse

Before thinking about installing a greenhouse tarpaulin, it's essential to choose the right tarpaulin for optimum protection.

How to choose your greenhouse tarpaulin?

Are you looking for a greenhouse tarpaulin but don't know how to choose one? BÂCHES DIRECT can help you find the right tarpaulin for your needs.

To do this, we offer :

  • LDPE tarpaulin in 100 or 200 micron grammage. It is therefore thin, flexible and easy to handle. LDPE tarpaulin has a lifespan of around 5 years, and has no metal eyelets or hems; it has a rough finish.

  • The PVC tarpaulin, manufactured in France, comes in weights ranging from 400gr/m² to 500gr/m² translucent with reinforcement. It's a long-term investment thanks to its anti-UV treatment, and will last you for around 10 years. Highly resistant, its finish is meticulous. The PVC tarpaulin has metal eyelets every 250 mm for solid, durable installation in all weathers.

How to determine the right dimensions for your greenhouse?

For maximum strength, the greenhouse tarpaulin needs to be stretched as tightly as possible over its structure. That's why it's important to get the dimensions right.

To do this, simply measure the hoop of your greenhouse using a string. If you want to bury your tarpaulin, add 70 to 100 cm on each side. For the length of your greenhouse, add 60 cm to allow for the hems (i.e. 30 cm at each end).

And don't forget custom-made greenhouse tarpaulins...

Once you've chosen your type of tarpaulin and your dimensions, it's time to choose your tarpaulin according to your criteria. BÂCHES DIRECT offers greenhouse tarpaulins in a wide range of weights and sizes, so you've got plenty of choice!

Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that the standard dimensions don't fit your tunnel greenhouse or your particular requirements. Here, it's possible! You can create your own custom-made tarpaulin! As your designer, we'll make the tarpaulin that's perfectly suited to your needs. Don't wait any longer, make your request and receive your free quotation within 24 hours!

Please note: We only manufacture made-to-measure PVC tarpaulins.

Fixing accessories

Greenhouse tarpaulins need to be securely fastened for optimum strength and protection against the elements.

For LDPE greenhouse tarpaulins without eyelets, metal clips are the essential fastening accessory. These clips are rustproof thanks to their zinc coating. Quick to install, they are strong and effective for your greenhouse tarpaulin.

For PVC tarpaulins with eyelets, the right accessory is the 9mm bungee cord. The elastic bungee cord is a professional-quality product that gives the tarpaulin a certain amount of float in strong winds. As a result, it is highly resistant and eliminates the risk of the tarpaulin tearing. It offers the advantage of quick and easy fastening, as well as being very easy to dismantle.

How do I install a greenhouse tarpaulin using metal clips?

Metal clips come in a range of sizes to suit your frame, and are sold in packs of 20. Once you've selected your size, simply clip them to your round greenhouse frame, taking your tarpaulin into account.

How to fit a greenhouse tarpaulin with a bungee cord?

First of all, you need to determine the length of bungee cord required to secure your tarpaulin.

Don't worry, all you need to do is calculate the length of your tarpaulin, and add between 20% and 30%, depending on the size of your structure.

Installing your tarpaulin with a bungee cord couldn't be easier: the tarpaulin has metal eyelets running around its circumference. Pass the bungee cord through the eyelets, wrap it around the greenhouse structure and fasten.
